I.T.S.G. Global Tax Journal – New Edition

The International Tax Specialist Group (“I.T.S.G.”) publishes the Global Tax Journal five times each year. The current edition, released on May 6, 2020, addresses the responses to the COVID-19 pandemic by countries across the world. The current edition contains 26 articles from 33 authors that cover 21 countries on five continents. From Portugal to Brazil, Switzerland to the U.S.A., India to Japan and various countries in between, the articles by local authors in each country explain the rules with local flair. Galia Antebi and Stanley C. Ruchelman contributed the U.S. response to COVID-19.

The interesting takeaway from this edition is the divergence in approaches adopted by different countries. Some countries focused principally on social distancing and enhanced governmental powers. Others adopted a lending program to small and medium companies. Still others deferred – but did not yet forgive – tax payments for V.A.T, employee wage withholding, and social contributions.
